 Tufanganj subdivision (Bengali: তুফানগঞ্জ মহকুমা) is a subdivision of the Cooch Behar district in the state of West Bengal,India.It consists of Tufanganj municipality and two community development blocks: Tufanganj–I and Tufanganj–II. The two blocks contain 25 gram panchayats. The subdivision has its headquarters at Tufanganj. Tufanganj is the gateway of state Assam. It is located 22 kms away from   CoochBehar   town. Tufanganj  town is under development. There are several glorious schools, college, play grounds, swimming pool, community hall, several bank s& ATM etc are there in Tufanganj. A hospital and different nursing homes are there for people’s health welfare. Tufaganj is a land of beauty as it is adjoined near different places of tourism (like Rasik bill). The climate of Tufanganj is very comfortable and soothing and its average temperature is near 28 degree Celsius. Buses and different type of cars are available here for transportation. The railway is under construction here. A police station and a fire brigade are available always for peoples service.. The Traditional fair called “DOL MELA” is celebrated every year with robust enthusiasm and pomp & grandeur.  People from different remote area come here for their daily essential needs. The glorious school TUFANGANJ N.N.M HIGH SCHOOL is located the heart of  Tufanganj town. Beside this school more 6 high school are there in Tufanganj.  The students of Tufanganj obtain very remarkable score in West Bengal MADHYAMIK  EXAM and also HIGHER SECONDARY EXAM and also get very good rank in JOINT ENTRANCE EXAMS . People living Tufanganj are very peaceful.

Geography

Tufanganj is located at 26°19′N 89°40′E / 26.32, 89.67. It has an average elevation of 70 metres (229 feet). The river Raidak flows beside this beautiful town called tufanganj.

Tufanganj–I block Tufanganj–II block

block 1 Rural area under Tufanganj–I block consists of 14 gram panchayats, viz. Andaran–Fulbari–I, Balabhut, Dhalpal–I, Natabari–I, Andaran–Fulbari–II, Chilkhana–I, Dhalpal–II, Natabari–II, Balarampur–I, Chilkhana–II, Maruganj, Balarampur–II, Deocharai and Nakkatigachh.Tufanganj police station serves this block.Headquarters of this block is in Tufanganj.

Block 2 Rural area under Tufanganj–II block consists of 11 gram panchayats, viz. Barokodali–I, Bhanukumari–II, Mahiskuchi–II, Salbari–I, Barokodali–II, Falimari, Rampur–I, Salbari–II, Bhanukumari–I, Mahiskuchi–I and Rampur–II.Tufanganj police station serves this block.Headquarters of this block is in Baksirhat.

Politics

Current MLA from Tufanganj assembly constituency (SC) is Alaka Barman of CPI(M), who won the seat in State elections of 2006. Previous MLAs from this seat include Pushpachandra Das of CPI(M) who won in 2001 and in 1996, Debendranath Barman of CPI(M) who won in 1991, and Manindranath Barma of CPI(M) who had won in 1987, 1982 and 1977.Tufanganj assembly constituency is part of Alipurduars (Lok Sabha constituency).

Demographics

As of 2001[update] India census, Tufanganj had a population of 19,293. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Tufanganj has an average literacy rate of 82%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 86%, and female literacy is 77%. In Tufanganj, 9% of the population is under 6 years of age.

By Trains:
Teesta torsa Express,North Bengal express, Kamrup Express, Saraighat express etc .First New Cooch Behar then by auto or by bus come Cooch Behar ,then take a bus and come Tufanganj. You can come first Alipur Duar and by bus Tufanganj.
By Buses:
First take the Buses for Coochbehar and then Tufanganj. Even You can get the Direct buses of Tufanganj from different places of W.B.
By Air:
First come Bagdogra ,then Siliguri and then By Buses or Trains You can come Tufanganj.
